Hunter Education

Every hunter (including out of state hunters) born after September 1, 1971, must successfully complete a Hunter Education Training Course.

  • The minimum age to obtain a Texas Hunter Education certification is nine (09) years of age.
  • If you are under nine (09) years of age and are hunting in the state of Texas, you must be accompanied by a person who is licensed to hunt in Texas, who has passed an state recognized hunter education class, or is exempt from certification (born before September 2, 1971), and you must be within normal voice control.
  • If you are between the age of nine (09) and sixteen (16), you must successfully complete a hunter education course, or you must be accompanied.
  • If you are age seventeen (17) or older, you must complete a hunter education course or purchase a one time “Hunter Education Deferral” and be accompanied.
